Alan MCDOUGALL Obituary

MCDOUGALL, Alan David (Mac). Passed away suddenly at home on Saturday 2 April 2022, in the presence of Elizabeth (Liz) and Duncan. The sports world has lost one of its most ardent fans. Having overcome so many challenges, starting with the loss of all his uni cricket gear when the Wahine sunk, he was not yet ready to give up and was planning to commence a new treatment this week to combat the decade-long encroachments of multiple myeloma. No complaints, no concessions - other than an occasional pinot noir - he valued and enjoyed the company and conversation of his former legal and banking colleagues, Remuera Golf Club friends, old uni mates, the Tuesday Coffee Club, the Thirsty Thursday political commentators, and so many, many more. Loved partner of Liz, loving father, father-in-law and grandpa of Duncan and Shirley, Em and Poppy, caring brother to Bruce, brother-in-law to Gerard and Jane and uncle to John, David and Elizabeth, brother-in-law to Suzanne. A constant companion of Daisy (the Labrador). Special thanks to Leanne Berkhan and the Haematology Team who pulled out all the stops to provide Mac with as much time and quality of life as possible. A service to celebrate Mac's life will be held on Saturday 9 April, 2.00pm at All Saints Chapel, Purewa, 100 St Johns Road, Meadowbank. All welcome.

Liz and family, we were very sorry to learn that Mac had passed away. His determination to stay with us for so long was extraordinary. He applied his intellectual skills and determination to very good effect. He was always positive and minimised the challenges he faced.
He was a notable Bell Gully partner. His considerable store of memories and anecdotes helped us appreciate the Firm´s rich history. He was an accomplished practitioner handling demanding matters.

We offer our condolences and best wishes.

Alan was warm, friendly and a total gentleman. His understated, wry humour was a wonderful feature of his personality and we really enjoyed his company. And he remained calm even when the "Wahine" was going down! Kindest wishes to Liz.

Dear Liz and family,
I've just learned through Ray Hutchison of Alan's departure. May I offer you my sincere condolences for your loss. Alan was such a warm, full-of-life character. It was a privilege to catch up and chat with him at the couple of Wahine reunions that we had in recent years.
There's a bible verse which says 'May the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort, comfort you in all your afflictions,' That is my prayer for you all at this time. Look after one another and may you all be blessed, physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually. Take care

We are very sad to learn of the loss of Alan and Liz our deepest sympathy to you and the family.
I am sure that all the surviving members of the Otago University Wahine cricket team would share these feelings -we have lost a valued, kind and gentle colleague
