Alan was our family link from my parents neighbour Miss Helen Mary Baird, I was her "Peter" she gave mum (93 will be 94 on 25/11/2015) and Dad her car when she was living at "Strationa" in Halstead Rd, Pleasant Point to pick me up from Christchurch, I was a Home of Compassion baby that was adopted Miss Baird (like a Grandmother & was at my 21st Birthday in Wellington, my now wife and I did a tour of the South Island and were to stay with Miss Baird in Dunedin, when we arrived she was in poor Health and along with Alan & Karen we managed to get Miss Baird to Dunedin Hospital where she passed away 6/1/1980 our daughter Helene Mereanna 9/11/1980 is named after this very special lady, over the years our family link has been maintained by Alan a true "Southern Man". Baird you are the last man standing of the 3 amigos that brought the Dairy Industry together as Fonterra. I will always remember Alan when we would catch up in the various Koru Clubs at airports or the phone call to him when I was in Dunedin on business. The memory that I recall with great humour was the Telecom Y2K presentation I flew down from Auckland to deliver at Mainland Products. This was arranged by the IT Manager who was a fitness fanatic always going for road runs in his lunch hour. The look on his face when he returned from his run after completely forgetting the appointment, seeing the big boss Alan very relaxed and laidback reminiscing with me his memories of Miss Baird and catching up on our families was priceless! RIP Alan Evan McConnon a great Southern Man. All the McConnon Family sincerest Condolences from Peter & Pane van Kampen "The van Kampens" Arkles Bay, Auckland.

TUB McConnon you are going to be sorely missed. You had the BIGGEST heart and most generous nature of anyone I know. We will never forget how kind you were to our whole family when Anna died and you let us stay at your house. You truly made us feel like we were not a bother and you said "this house is your house". How special you will always be to us. Thanks for the beautiful memories, Alan. We love you dearly. Ginetta Shriffer xx
