I was very sad to discover this just yesterday. Al offered such generous friendship and wisdom to me personally ... and he always seemed to be a cut above the rest of us in the "Tight 5". And in acknowledging the family's loss, be assured that Al always spoke warmly and proudly of "Bard and the kids".

My condolences to Barbara and Family in your loss.

I remember Alan from my days starting at Waitaki BHS in 1953 and followed his career at Lever Brothers and on to Auckland where we caught up in the late 60's.
He was exceptionally enterprising founding Polychem, then getting involved with pork and farming and endeavoring to increase rural efficiency and the market structure. He was a visionary and especially in this sphere of his life.
He was a significant contributor in all phases of his life and will be well remembered for that.

Heartfelt sympathy to Barbara and family.
Fondest memories from 1953, through school and university days, with cheerful and highly intelligent Auckland encounters...very sadly missed by many Waitakians.
