I am saddened by the news, and my sincere sympathies go to Nina and the rest of the family.
I know Alan as he was a great friend of my dad's, from way back when I was just a lad. And in time he became my uncle Alan and later still a boss and a friend. I was his deckhand for a time, fishing on Karina out of the Bay. We had a particularly good year, drop lines for Puka, Marlin triple strike, some great clients and a monster Mako that didn;t bite (whew!). I remember an Italian chap and his daughter, she caught my eye and a marlin, though the weather was a shocker. There were cruising trips staying away at night, tucked up in some anchorage with meals that had to be meat and five veg, all prepared by Nina.
We were fishing on Alan's sixty ninth birthday and I won't share his musings on turning sixty nine; they were... um colourful. But I'm so glad Alan, that you got much more than you were expecting.
As time went on I spent less time in the Bay, but when I was home I would often catch up with Alan and Nina. There was always a Gidday Stevie, a cup of tea and a natter when I called. We would chat about this and that and Alan always had a view of my latest project which I valued immensely.
They say people live on in the memories, hearts and minds of others, Alan you will not be forgotten, you have a place in hearts and minds of so many, including mine.
