Alan was my brother and although we didn´t grow up together and I was an adult before we met I am very glad we did know each other My mother Moana (Mona) was pregnant with me when she attended the Empire Games with my father Ted, to watch her son win a silver medal for New Zealand in rowing The medal was proudly displayed on the wall of his Brisbane home, which is where I first saw it. It was impressive.
Alan was generous, funny and kind.He had a mischievous sense of humour and was always making me ( and others) laugh. His hugs were legendary. He used to envelop in his long arms and squeeze tight I felt safe in his embrace. Phyllis and Alan were kind and generous to me when I was locked down in New Zealand during COVID and was unable to return to Australia I often stayed with them or visited them in Rotorua I am very sad and I will miss him a lot RIP brother
