Maria SHERIDAN Obituary
09.02.67 — 03.01.25 Passed away surrounded by whānau at Gisborne Hospital on Jan 3rd 2025 aged 57. A staunch advocate for te ao Māori and education in Te Tairāwhiti, and across the motu. Proud Mum to Reremoana and Tamahina, Mum-in- law to Dion, and loving Nan to Kahurere, Waimanu and Kopuapounamu. Her mokos will miss their weekly sleepovers with Nanny Ri. "Toitū te whenua, toitū te whakapapa, toitū te tangata, toitū Te Tiriti!"
Loved eighth child of Kate and Dick Dunn (both dec). Much loved sister of Coral, Sharon, Gwynn (dec) Wayne, Julian, Kim (dec), Storm, Jackie, Eirin, Callan and Amber and sister-in-law of Mare (dec), Neil, Wendy, Michelle, Phil, Mark and Pete. Loved auntie of her many nieces and nephews. Adored and loved Nan by her mokopuna Kahurere (Big boy) and her two mokonini's Waimanu and Kopuapounamu. Once we were 12 and now we are 9.
Ri lay at 40 Wairere Road and her service was held at Te Kura Kaupapa Māori Ngā Uri a Maui followed by the hakari at Te Poho-o-Rawiri Marae on Monday 6 January 2025. In lieu of flowers please make donations to Hospice Tairāwhiti.
Ri, sister, mother, Nan has left us too soon. Ka heke te roimata me te hūpē, ka ea te mate.
