GAULT, The Rt Hon Sir Thomas Munro, KNZM, QC. Greatly loved husband and best friend of Barbara, devoted father to Ian, loved and respected father-in-law of Sue, and adored Poppa to Elizabeth and Madeleine. As every day was a celebration of his life, Tom requested no funeral; a moment and a few thoughts was all he asked. In accordance with his wishes, there was a small gathering of immediate family at his home yesterday, and a private cremation has taken place. In lieu of flowers, donations to Mercy Hospice, PO Box 47693 Ponsonby, Auckland 1144 would be appreciated. All communications to State of Grace East, PO Box 25109 St Heliers, Auckland 1740. I had the pleasure of playing a round of golf with Mr Gault at the Old Course at St Andrews just before he assumed the R&A Captaincy ten years ago. I throughly enjoyed my time with him. He was charming, knowledgeable and told some great stories. I am sorry to hear of his passing. My condolences to the family.

It was with great sadness that I learned of Tom's passing. My first job interview in New Zealand was with Tom - and he retired from the Supreme Court on the same day I retired from AJ Park.
He always had a smile and a gentle and wise thing to say. When he announced he was leaving Parks he separately assured both Keith Thomson and me that it was not because we had respectively joined and become a partner at the same time.
This week in the clubhouse at the Karori Golf Club I saw his name several time on the honours board from when he was club captain and later president. In a history of the club David Sercombe tells how Tom and Bob Craig had to go to make weekly payments to the contractors at the club to ensure the course could open.
Tom was very generous at AIPPI conferences in introducing me to all of the important contacts. His status in that group was acknowledged when they awarded him a member for life honour.
It was a pleasure and a privilege to have known him.

Dear Barbara and Family,
I was so sorry to hear of Tom's passing.
during the time I have known Tom at the OBC I have developed a great deal of respect for him and yourself.
The couple of times that I have taken Tom and his friend Gary out fishing were very special moments for me.
Barbara my thoughts are with you and your family.
Kind regards,
Peter Hawkins.
