Ingrid, I am struggling to come to terms that Rudi will no longer be with us. Your sense of loss will be by far greater for sure. But you can take comfort in that Rudi can rest in peace now, knowing that his memory within the “Football” community and particularly “Referees” will live on.
Without Rudi (a founding member of) United Soccer 1 (US1) would not have started as Federation. So many Referees started their careers via Rudi's introduction, his instructing of courses, mentoring the New Referees on their first day and Assessing many each and every weekend. This assisted US1 Referee Action Group being awarded the “North Harbour Sporting Excellence Award in 2003”.
He was well known and liked at every ground and at all football activities.
I was proud to have him on the Development Team (in my capacity of Referee Development Officer of US1 and later NFF) his knowledge, assistance, support, work ethic, friendship and humour was second to none.
Being awarded Life Membership to Northern Football Federation, I know was a very proud moment for Rudi and so well deserved.
I feel privileged to have been associated with Rudi and enjoying his friendship.
He was indeed a great “Ambassador” for Refereeing and the Federation.

Rudi was an earnest man of high integrity, who always strove to maintain decent standards, especially with football refereeing; something he was passionate about. Thanks, Rudi, and Ingrid. I'll miss his humour, too.

Rudi as we in the refereeing world knew him have sorely missed his character both on the field and at meetings for some time now. Rest in peace. Northern Football Referees were privileged to count you as a member and those memories will live on.
