Kirsten and I were very sorry to hear of Paul's death, and we extend our deepest sympathies to Leonie and family. Paul was a great man, both professionally and (even more importantly) as the wonderful person he was.

Marcia and I were saddened to hear of Paul's death and offer our sympathy to all family. My abiding memory of him is that of a tall gentle teenager, nicknamed Moses, probably as unaware of his intellectual abilities as his many Marlborough College friends were. His benign and at times slightly bewildered manner hid a persistent hard working character. Paul always enjoyed a joke, and as the President Founder of his beloved Bean Club always managed to produce a variety of feeble and outrageous excuses to avoid contributions to the swear tin. I have no doubt he is now in arrears, however much in credit he is for the rest of his deeds. RIP Paul!

I am deeply, deeply saddened at this news ... I am in tears as I write this! What a great man! What a great friend! What brilliant mind! He was a pioneer in NZ research in fibre-paper relationships. He was respected and honoured worldwide. Many companies, researchers, and academics valued his insights, original thinking and advice. He was always warm, sensitive caring and humble. Many will pause in admiration for who he was and what he achieved even under immense physical difficulty. Dear Leonie and family; we grieve with you. We know just how much you upheld and supported Paul. We send our love and very sincere condolence at your loss. We will not forget! Geoff Duffy
