Dear Bruce,

Mike and I are very sad that we won't be able to come to your funeral. You meant a great deal to us, as you did (probably even more so) to Sarah, who can't now communicate this. Only one of the Fenton girls, but also my lovely brother Will, will be able to make it to your funeral; as Gill is in Australia. We are happy that last time we saw you just a few weeks ago, we had a good half hour with your sense of humour and personality just as they always were.

You have known our family longer than almost anyone else, from your brave years sharing a room with our father, to our childhood highlights of visiting you at Hamurana safe in the knowledge that there would be doughnuts and Freshup, and the 50+ years since.

Not much changed over the years and we have had some excellent evenings still centering around your outstanding hospitality, including the memorable "Devil's portion" night in Auckland, one of quite a few evenings we shared with you and sometimes Rob.

I think we visited all of your recent homes, and were so pleased to see you settled in Rotorua, with Pam and, no surprise, a lovely vege garden. Once again, a highlight was a really fun evening out with you and Pam; a certain theme emerging here.

You also played a big role at various family weddings, at least once in the absence of our father, and spoke at both our parents' funerals, which says it all.

Aside from all of this, we admired the tenacity you displayed running your own business (es), through good times and hard times - you built some great things and gave a lot of people a good job, and that is something to be proud of. You also always managed to have an excellent car, to Mike's slight envy. And I recall one of your houses in Auckland was so palatial that Sarah's son Andrew thought you lived in a hotel.

You always took an interest in what all of the family were doing and even referred people to me for my own business, which I appreciated.

We will think of you on Tuesday and, of course, we will raise a glass to you. Thank you for being a wonderful adult in our lives Bruce. We will miss you.

Much love Carrie Fenton (and Sarah Barlow) and Mike Knowsley.

Dear Bruce

It has been the biggest privilege to have known you for the last 22 years. In the early days you were a hard taskmaster that's for sure but your fervent determination rubbed off on me and there was never such a thing as giving up, ever. From about Day2 I added to any response I gave you for not knowing how to do something, but don't worry I will find a way', and that we did, working together for so many years on many successful projects.

You were more than my boss, a friend for life and I treasure the memories of long chats at Eppinghurst with a glass of chardonnay, your stories, jokes and chuckles. Thank you for the way you held my family close and remembered everyone's special day with a phone call.

It was a sad day when you moved out of Auckland but I am happy that we kept in regular contact and I feel very lucky that you and Pam always visited me when you were in the city and also welcomed me into your new home.

I am going to miss you lots.

Dear Robert and family,
I offer my condolences to you all at the death of your father. My mother was Francie Ludlow nee Andrews. Related to the Faulls. As a child I used to stay at Waitara with the Hendersons with fond memories of them all. Joy was about my age so we played together, Your Dad used to call on us at Fitzroy in latter years and when you and your Dad lived in New Plymouth I used to come and have a meal with you occasionally. You probably don't remember as it was a long time ago. I have good memories of your dad but sadly lost touch in latter years. Sincerely, Allie Croad. Nee Ludlow.
