Shirley was my sponsor in 1999 for membership to the Lioness Club of Mercury Bay, we have kept in touch, even though I now live here in Queensland, being a Member of the Lioness Club of Mooloolaba. Shirley was an intelligent, witty, attractive woman, caring for her community, immensely proud of her family & extended family. Her home together with her beloved husband dear Alex was a haven for all, welcoming, always with good vibes. Shirley Cawley was a highly regarded member of the Whitianga community and the many groups she gave of her time & expertise. I was grateful for her friendship, fun & fellowship, I learnt so much from her, one of Shirley's wise utterances that has stayed the years with me - "We never know how strong we are till being strong is the only choice we have."
Shirley, you were a faithful friend and a "Faithful Friend is a Treasure of the Heart" RIP

Lifetime of memories from days (early 1950's) in South Rd, Hawera. Shirley was a close family friend who babysat my brother and I, and cooked us the most awesome "Nutmeg Topped Baked Apples" for dessert. Attended her 21st birthday and as a 7 yr old was privileged to be a flower girl in her wedding party when she married Ron. Barbara & I wore beautiful Green Flock nylon dresses & carried silver flower baskets. Honoured to attend Shirl & Alex's wedding & most recently Shirl's 80th B/day celebrations.
Rest in Peace Shirl, you certainly will be missed. Loving thoughts to Alex & family.

One of our earliest friends from Simpsons Beach. We remember our excursion over the Simpson and Wells farms in Harry,s Land Rover to get mussels, kina, and papa, make a fire on the beach and eat them. What a beautiful day with beautiful friends. Rest in Peace Shirley, Love to Alex and families.
