To Alyson and family,

Please accept my belated condolences on Peter's passing. It first came to my notice last night 21.05.2016, here in Hereford, England.

I was in the same cohort of students as Peter in Cardiff High School from 1955 to 1962 and shared most classes with him in our latter four years, as well as some out-of-school activities, including our stumbling efforts at learning ballroom dancing!

Peter was a very friendly, conscientious and clever student.

I contacted him at the end of 2014 and received a chatty email update. It included his memory that I'd left a note in some household dust in his home in Gabalfa, Cardiff, which came to light many years later. Apparently it said: "Alan Evans was here"! So I was delighted to be remembered by a great man of science, who's made a phenomenal contribution in many ways. He deserved a long retirement with family and friends.

I was saddened to learn of your loss.

I am an outpatient nurse in Fresno California. I have recently in the past 5 years used and experimented with Manuka Honey, I have referred countless patients and coworkers to Professor Peter Molan's You Tube Website for this amazing healing product that little is known in our area. With much gratitude, I attribute all of this knowledge and respect to this Amazing Man and the team of individuals in the healing industry. Thanks for your contribution.

Peter was one of my MPhil supervisors many many years ago, he was so patient and always had time to give. I am truly sad to hear of his passing.

Peter's funeral was a fitting tribute to a generous, passionate, tenacious man who emulated integrity and a wholehearted commitment to living life to the full. His legacy is vast. The lives he has touched are uncountable. I feel so privileged to be one of them. Much, much love to you, Alyson, through the days ahead.

Vale Peter Molan. We have all lost a truly wonderful person. Peter was a phenomenal scientist who was able to tie widely different threads together to increase our understanding of very complex systems. Without Peter, I doubt that medicinal honey research and business would be as they are today.

Most of all, though, Peter was an extraordinary human being. He was kind, generous, passionate and ethical beyond measure.

I was a naïve undergraduate student the first time I met Peter. I had contacted him to ask if we could discuss some of his honey work, and was invited to stay with him and Alyson. Although this was more than 15 years ago, I remember so much of my first visit to the Molans. I learnt an extraordinary amount from Peter (and have continued to do so, ever since), and probably would have been a little star-struck if he had not been such lovely, lovely person. And staying with both Peter and Alyson was so much fun! Even though I was at that mostly oblivious, invincible and carefree age, I could clearly see how much they both loved and supported each other, and what a wonderful relationship they had.

Unfortunately we live in different countries, so I didn't get to see as much of Peter and Alyson as I would have liked. However, Peter was always so incredibly supportive of my research interests, and never failed to offer help with any of my endeavours. Peter was such an outstanding mentor, and he made a remarkably positive difference to my life.

I know there are numerous other scientists and medicos whom Peter helped. He also literally saved lives and limbs, and reduced so much suffering. This was because of his tireless research efforts, passion for sharing his results and the generosity with which he gave so much of his time to help others.

I admired Peter so much, and I was deeply shocked and saddened to learn he had been so ill. In typical Peter style, he had been offering me help only very recently, without letting on just how sick he was.

Although I only ever managed to catch up with Peter and Alyson a handful of times over the past 15 or so years, since I heard of his death I miss him very much and feel that the world is a lesser place without him. My thoughts are with all of his family. And because I was lucky enough to spend time with both Peter and Alyson, my heart breaks especially for Alyson now, who was clearly as important to Peter as he was to her.

Over the last 3 tears Peter entered ad enriched my life like few have done. Setting aside his leadership and obviously historical place in the field of Medical Manuka Honey, Peter was a gentle and kind man. Modest in his approach and fierce in his defense of ethics and science.
Living abroad, I met him only 3 times whilst in NZ, and he enriched me at every visit. My heart goes out to Alyson and family for their great loss. May we carry his virtue and integrity into the future

It is with great regret we learnt about Peter's passing. A small team of New Zealand delegates at Apimondia are deeply saddened about the loss of a passionate honey scientist and grandfather of Manuka science. He leaves a legacy to the world and moreover was never afraid to ask the hard questions. A true gentleman to the end, and a great mentor over the years.
At the closing ceremony of Apimondia in Korea today, Maureen Conquer announced Peter's death to the assembled nations (numbering up to 9000 people) and paid tribute to his life's work. We salute you Peter and thank you sincerely for your contribution to the scientific world of manuka honey and beyond.

Dr Peter Molan will long be remembered for his exceptional work in first bringing the amazing healing qualities of Manuka Honey to the world. His groundbreaking science and long commitment to the cause has helped change many peoples lives and make the world a better place. From myself and our Company Comvita, we salute Dr Molan and pass on our deepest sympathies to Alyson and the family. Rest in peace Peter in the assurance of a job well done.

I didn't know Peter but his work around honey changed my life. I suffered Meningitis Type C aged 15 and had to have both of my legs amputated below the knee. I lost a lot of skin and the wounds on my leg wouldn't heal. By chance the wound specialist at my hospital had heard about honey being used to treat wounds in a clinical trial. I went from 9 months of nothing to being healed in 6 weeks. I am 32 now married with two beautiful children. I lead a full and active life.

So as I said I didn't know Peter personally but his great work changed my life.

I wonder how many other 1000's of people he has helped.

I had the immense good fortune to have interviewed Peter extensively during the writing of my book on manuka honey. He and his wife Alyson kindly invited my wife and I into their home, and we later shared the podium on several occasions once it was published. It was a great thrill for me to invite them both to the awards dinner after the book was chosen as a finalist in the Royal Society of New Zealand Science Book Prize. The book was titled Manuka The Biography of an Extraordinary Honey, but it was always also a biography of Peter, an extraordinary man.

In his honour and memory, here's my favourite passage about Peter, from chapter 4:

More than anything, Peter Molan has an enormous enthusiasm for his subject. It comes out in his writing, and of course far more in the many talks he has given all around the world. If you are in the audience you can't help but be caught up by it all. He is fascinated by this substance which he once knew absolutely nothing about; how the bees make it, how wonderfully self-preserving it is, how strongly it can deal to potentially life-threatening bacteria, and what an almost perfect wound dressing it makes.

The more Peter has studied it, the more amazing things it has revealed. It is a simple substance which most of us just take for granted, but which is turning out to be so much more. Just as he took apart his parents' clock when he was a child, he and his fellow scientists have been figuring out more and more about how honey works. And he can't help but share that sense of discovery with the world.
