Sister Pauline was one of the most incredible women I knew. She was one of my good friends, and I miss her so much. I hope that she's somewhere beautiful now.

In 1980 Pauline had the opportunity for sabbatical leave and instead of overseas travel and study she chose to become of our first-year seminarian group at Holy Cross College in Mosgiel. In her months with us she was both mentor and friend encouraging us to read good fiction with the reasoning: 'you guys can't experience everything in life, for example what it's like to be an unmarried pregnant teenager, but by savouring fiction you get a taste of the reality of the complex lives of others and will so become more empathetic and loving. May she rest in God's kind keeping. John O'Connor

A much loved teacher and friend. Sr Pauline brought so many wonderful qualities to her teaching career and contact with others. I will always remember her care and concern, great compassion, and most of all her great sense of humour and enormous wit. You will be very much missed by all our family and we treasure our memories of you. Arohanui, Liz Jones.

She will be fondly remembered and sadly missed by all who knew her. A ferocious spirit, an intelligent advocate and an extraordinary inspiration for generations of young women. My thoughts are with her family and community.

ENGEL, Dame Sister Pauline. Passed away in Auckland on 15 November 2017. She was loved and cherished by her nieces and nephews (John, Jane, Peter, Christine, Tim, Trisha, Philip, Paul, Clare, Christine, Louise, Peter, Rachel, Paul, Simon, Matthew and Barbara) and our children and partners. She taught us about having a passion for life and unconditional love through the precious time she spent with each of us making sure we knew both where we came from and encouraging us on where we can go in life. We are honoured to be part of your whanau Aunty Pauline, as you used to refer to us as. May you rest in peace with Grandad, Nana, John, Marie, Ruth and Judith.
