I have many fond memories of sharing time with Ngaire as a child on the farm in the King Country. My family would pack up the car (we lived in Auckland) and with much excitement we would head out for the King Country for Christmas or school holidays. The trip seemed to take for ever, but eventually we would arrive, and the adventure would begin: wandering the farm, checking out the animals, swimming in the rivers, and the inevitable sometimes hair raising ride in the old Land Rover, kids piled in the back like sardines. Those were very special times for me.
As an adult, I remember Ngaire setting off on travels to parts of the world not easily reached. I admired her greatly for her sense of adventure and her desire to experience life at its fullest. I admire her for her courage and perseverance while dealing with the cancer. I have only recently realized what an incredibly creative and talented person she was, the little book "Puddy the Kunekune Cat" is one of my treasured possessions.
I know that Ngaire was a very loving person, who cared about people, and I know that in her life she touched the lives of others in many ways. My Mum Colleen Sorensen (Ngaires Aunt) was unable to come to Ngaires funeral, but she wants me to say how much she loved Ngaire, and she remembers the amazing sense of humour Ngaire had, together they shared many laughs, both being a bit inclined to see the humour in the ridiculous!
To Ngaires family...both Mum and I send you our love, we know how much you will miss her, and how hard it will be to carry on. I've pirated some plants from Ngaires garden at Port Waikato, and have planted them in a new garden area I'm creating. They are my "Ngaire plants" and as they grow and multiply, Ngaire I will be thinking of you. Much love from your cousin Deb and Aunty Col.
